These are the core terms your team will use while working a case through the RTI process — from the initial problem statement through to the finished intervention plan.
Problem Statement
A clear, measurable description of the gap between a student's current and expected performance.
Hypothesis
A testable explanation for the performance gap identified in the problem statement.
Diagnostic Information
Evidence collected to determine whether the team's hypothesis is supported.
Hypothesis Validation
The process of reviewing diagnostic information to determine whether the evidence supports the hypothesis.
Intervention Plan
A targeted plan designed to address the validated hypothesis and improve the student's identified area of need.
